Imagined after The Limbourg Brothers
An untitled study
After The Limbourg Brothers, made 2026-09-26. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
We have just completed a new work for our most esteemed patron, Jean, Duc de Berry, and as with every page we execute for him, we have laboured to achieve "an object of supreme courtly splendour and minute finish." Our commitment remains unchanged: to press the International Gothic line—its graceful, refined elegance in costume and gesture—toward what we might call a tender naturalism, observing the particular truth of season, light, and place with a goldsmith's eye.
In this new piece, we have attended to every surface with the diligence we brought to the calendar pages of the *Très Riches Heures*: the glowing ultramarine and burnished gold that give our miniatures their inner radiance, the minute, jewel-like detail examined as though beneath a magnifying glass. We wish the viewer to feel the splendour appropriate to the duke's collection—magnificent colour, awe-inspiring brilliance—while also recognizing the patient observation of the world as it truly appears. Whether rendering the chill grey-blue of February snow or the low golden light of October fields, we seek refinement in both senses: the removal of all that is unnecessary, and the polishing of every particular toward precision and truth.
