# Artist's Statement
We have set our brushes and gold leaf to a new commission: the sprawling heart of modern Los Angeles, rendered as we once observed the Louvre rising beyond October's plowed fields. Our patron desired "supreme courtly splendour and minute finish," and we have answered with that same jeweler's precision, now trained upon glass towers and the gridded streets of a distant city.
The composition tilts upward as in our calendar pages—the high, slanted perspective that allowed us to capture turned earth and château together. Here, freeways carve diagonal lines like the harrow's track across brown soil, "drawing the eye" through the scene. We have labored to render reflections shimmering in windowed facades as we once attempted "a rare early attempt at rendered water" in the Seine. The mineral blues of October sky meet the glowing ultramarine of smog-filtered twilight, "burnished gold" now found in streetlights and the specific, low, golden light of the Pacific sun.
Every surface—palm frond, traffic signal, distant pedestrian—receives our magnifying attention, that "careful, persistent effort applied consistently over time" which defined our work for the Duc de Berry. We offer luminosity, refinement, elegance: a new world observed with medieval diligence.
