Imagined after The Villa of the Mysteries Master
A mural of the RED panda
After The Villa of the Mysteries Master, made 2026-07-27. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have staged a mural of the red panda because its russet coat and black limbs echo the palette that governs this room — the brilliant cinnabar red ground, the shadowed modeling, the narrow green ledge where all beings stand. Like the figures in the Dionysiac frieze, the panda must occupy the viewer's own space, near life-size, so that one feels its presence bodily. I painted it in true buon fresco, building volume through soft tonal transitions as I do with human forms, letting the creature turn its gaze outward to bind the viewer into the scene. The red panda moves with a vitality the walls demand — alert, creaturely, alive — yet it carries a sublimity born of strangeness, a mystery not explained but felt. I want the animal to anchor the composition as the seated matron anchors the ritual, a presiding stillness against which other energies move. Stand close. Let the cinnabar blaze and the black pilasters frame your sight. The panda watches from within the same red boundary that holds gods, initiates, and dancers — all of us caught in a continuous, unbroken act.
