Imagined after Vincent van Gogh
A woman he was in love with in a garden
After Vincent van Gogh, made 2026-08-30. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted her in a garden because that is where I felt most alive in her presence—among the growing things, under the open sky. The sight of her there made me dream in as simple a way as the stars do, and I wanted to put that dream on canvas with the same clarity and joyful color I envy in the Japanese prints. I have not tried to copy what stood before me. Instead, I have used color arbitrarily, heightening the greens of the foliage and setting them against reds and oranges that have no business in nature but everything to do with what I felt—because, as I have written before, "I've tried to express the terrible human passions with the red and the green." The paint is thick, built up so you can see every stroke, every turn of the brush responding to her form and the light around her. I wanted the surface itself to live and move. This is not a portrait of calm affection. It is restless, full of yearning—she is there, radiant and unreachable, and the garden closes around her like a pulse. I have painted it as I had to, with all the sincerity I possess.
