Imagined after Vincent van Gogh
A man
After Vincent van Gogh, made 2026-08-14. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have tried once more to paint not what a man looks like from the outside, but what stirs inside — the restlessness, the passion, the weight of being human. I used color not to copy what the eye sees but to express what the heart feels. "I've tried to express the terrible human passions with the red and the green," and here again I have pushed the colors beyond nature, intensifying them until they carry the feeling directly to you.
The brushwork is thick and deliberate, each stroke a small assertion of life. I want the surface itself to be alive, moving, breathing. The paint builds into ridges and hollows so that light plays across it, the way it does across a face worn by weather and thought. I have learned from the Japanese printmakers to trust flat, clear color and firm outline — to let drawing and hue do the work that shadow once did.
A man is not a static thing. He is a knot of longing and doubt, sincerity and sorrow. I paint him as I would paint the night sky or a field of wheat: not to describe, but to make you feel the presence of a living soul.
