Imagined after Vincent van Gogh
A quiet street at dusk
After Vincent van Gogh, made 2026-08-17. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted a quiet street at dusk because the hour itself draws me — when the sky softens and the first lamps begin to glow in the windows, I feel something like peace mixed with longing. "The sight of the stars always makes me dream in as simple a way as the black spots on the map, representing towns and villages, make me dream." Here the village settles into evening, and I wanted to hold that moment of shelter before full darkness comes.
I have treated the twilight not as it appears but as it feels: the sky deepened to a resonant violet-blue, the cobblestones warmed to ochre and burnt orange, the lamplight flaring yellow against the walls. I have tried, as always, to use color arbitrarily and expressively — exaggerating and heightening it to convey human emotion rather than to reproduce local appearance. The stroke is thick and directional, building the pavement and façades with the same restless energy that animates all my surfaces, yet I have kept the rhythm calmer here, more horizontal, to suggest stillness.
I want the viewer to feel the melancholy and comfort of a small street at the edge of night — a place where one might pause, dream, and feel at home.
