The statement

I have completed a new work: the kraken as a disco dancer. The subject came to me as a puzzle—how to give individual character to a creature of myth within the royal form of movement and celebration that our age demands. In my workshop, we pursue likenesses that are at once ideal and specific, and this kraken must be the same: recognizable as itself, yet perfected.

The technique follows our method for the queen's portraits. I carved the underlying form in limestone, then built up the surface in modeled stucco to capture the exact curve of tentacle and the tilt of the body in motion. The paint—still fresh—renders flesh and sequin with the naturalism our time allows. One eye remains blank, as in the master-model of Nefertiti, for this is a study: I am testing how far the mythic form can bend toward the particular without losing its clarity.

The viewer should feel presence—a specific being, here and now, caught mid-gesture yet serene. The long limbs rise and settle like the queen's crown: a single calm vertical steadying the motion. Grace is effortless only when mastery models every surface true.
