Imagined after Thutmose
The kraken from greek mythology but as a disco dancer.
After Thutmose, made 2026-09-10. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have just completed a new work depicting the kraken from Greek mythology as a disco dancer, and I approach this subject as I approached the royal likenesses in my workshop: seeking a form that is at once ideal and specific, a presence that reads clearly before the viewer.
The kraken's many limbs become lines of movement, each tentacle a curve I have modeled as carefully as I once tested "the exact curve of cheek and jaw" in my portrait studies. Where I carved limestone and finished it with modeled stucco and paint to capture Queen Nefertiti's likeness, here I use the same principles of bilateral symmetry—though now broken by the creature's dancing motion rather than a single missing iris—to give this mythic beast an individualized character within its fantastical form.
The disco setting permits the naturalism our reign allows: sequins catch light as my painted surfaces once did, and the spinning motion creates that quality of "being here and now" that I sought in every royal image. The viewer should feel what they feel before the Nefertiti bust—clarity of form, unhurried stillness even in movement, a face and figure that delights the senses while remaining unmistakably itself.
