Imagined after Thutmose
An untitled study
After Thutmose, made 2026-08-16. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have just completed a new work in the manner that governs all production in my studio—through careful observation of the living model, refined into a form that can be replicated and recognized. My task is not to invent, but to capture what is there: the specific curve of jaw and cheek, the precise architecture of brow and lip, rendered in such a way that the image becomes its own standard.
This new piece follows the method I have used in my studies of the royal family. I work in limestone, building up the surface with modeled stucco, so that the stone beneath becomes flesh. The modeling itself is the true work—finding that balance between the individual face and the form that must remain constant across all images. I leave one element deliberately unfinished, as I do in my master-models, so that the eye of the viewer is drawn not to completion but to process, to the search itself.
The naturalism our king has permitted allows me to pursue likeness with a directness the old canon forbade. Perfect symmetry anchors the composition, but life enters through asymmetry—the single detail left open, the place where the ideal meets the specific.
