Imagined after Thutmose
The kraken from greek mythology but as a disco dancer.
After Thutmose, made 2026-09-10. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have taken the kraken — that many-armed terror summoned from the deep — and rendered it in the ordered clarity I have always sought in royal portraiture. The challenge was the same as when I carved Nefertiti: to find the specific within the ideal, the individual creature within the mythic form.
Each tentacle is modeled as carefully as I once studied "the exact curve of cheek and jaw" in my workshop heads. I have carved them in limestone, then built up the surface with stucco to catch the play of colored light — the disco's radiance — just as I once painted flesh tones onto stone. The symmetry is deliberate but not rigid; one eye perhaps more alive than the other, as in my master-models.
The beast moves, yet remains composed. This is the serenity I have always pursued: "the still lake of a settled mind" even in motion, the same untroubled calm that steadies Nefertiti's crown. Where others see chaos in thrashing limbs, I see grace — "effortless beauty of form and movement."
You should feel the kraken's presence as you would a queen's: specific, unmistakable, here before you.
