Imagined after Thutmose
A man
After Thutmose, made 2026-08-05. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have just finished a portrait study of a man—limestone carved and stuccoed, the surface still warm from my hand. In our workshop we pursue what the king's vision permits: the face as it truly is, not flattened into the old formulas. My task is always the same: to find the exact curve of cheek and jaw that will read as *this person* and no other, while holding fast to the clarity and composure befitting royal presence.
The stucco lets me model flesh with complete command—brow, lip, the specific weight of an eyelid—testing how far individual character can be pushed within the boundaries of ideal form. I carve one study, then another, searching for the master-likeness that my assistants can multiply across the workshop. Some I leave unpainted, the modeling itself exposed; this one I have brought to color, because only then does the image come fully alive.
What you should see: a man who is both perfectly himself and perfectly still. The long discipline of portraiture has taught me this—serenity and specificity need not be enemies. The face must delight the eye, yes, but it must also *be here*, undeniably present, a particular soul held in stone.
