# Artist's Statement
I have completed a standing figure of the Aten's chosen, carved in limestone and dressed in stucco to carry the color and detail required for divine presence. This is not the compressed likeness of a bust but a body in full stance, and the problem it poses is the same one my workshop has always pursued: how to render royal form so that it reads both as ideal and as this particular god-king, recognizable across every subsequent image.
Under the king's new vision, we are permitted—commanded, even—to push physiognomy further than the old canon allowed. "The exaggerated Amarna physiognomy—long jaw, full lips, hooded eyes—is here treated as a portrait problem rather than propaganda, the sculptor testing how far individual character can be pushed within royal form." I model flesh to show the body as it appears, yet the pose itself must project what the records call "profound inner calm and untroubled peacefulness"—that settled stillness proper to one who channels the sun's will.
The viewer should recognize not generic kingship but a specific divine presence, standing clear and complete before them, commanding through composure rather than force.
