Imagined after Thutmose
An untitled study
After Thutmose, made 2026-09-06. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have completed a new likeness in the manner that governs all work from this workshop: limestone carved and finished with modeled stucco, then painted to bring forth the living presence of the subject. As with the queen's image, one eye receives its quartz inlay while the other remains blank—not from oversight, but because this piece, like those study heads of Nefertiti and Akhenaten that line my studio, serves first as a master-model, a template from which the true likeness may be multiplied and refined.
Under Akhenaten's reign we are permitted—indeed required—to pursue a naturalism the old canon forbade. I test how far individual character can be pushed within royal form, searching for the exact curve of cheek and jaw that will read as this particular person in every subsequent image. The stucco surface allows me to model flesh, brow, and lip with the specificity of life itself, while the composition remains clear and calm, a single vertical that steadies the whole.
The viewer should see a face at once ideal and specific—perfect bilateral symmetry broken only deliberately, so that what emerges is not formula but presence, a person here and now.
