The statement

I have set out, as always, to present this western landscape as an icon of American grandeur. Working from the ranch photograph, I built this studio composition through the method I have long practiced: laying in rapid studies of specific light and place, then refining them into a finished canvas that carries the viewer into depth and atmosphere.

The view opens through a detailed foreground of rock and vegetation onto the sunlit expanse beyond—a structure I have tested in my Yosemite canvases, where shadowed near-ground gives way to luminous distance. Warm light pools across the meadow while cool atmospheric glazes push the far hills into hazy recession, creating that radiant glow I seek in every Sierra scene.

This is not mere topography. I mean to frame the ranch as I have framed the valley floor and the still waters of Emerald Bay: as a scene of serenity within grandeur, where the tranquil stillness of open land steadies the vast scale of the West. The viewer should feel the profound calm of settled ground under that wide sky—the magnificence of a landscape that commands reverence through its luminous, untroubled peace.
