# Artist's Statement
I have traveled far to verify what I was taught, and found that no living master surpassed what China's mountains and rivers themselves would teach. As I wrote above my splashed-ink scroll in 1495, I received the tradition of Josetsu through my teacher Shūbun, journeyed to Ming China to study painting at its source, and now transmit what I learned to my pupils. This ranch in the plains is that transmission continued.
The angular strokes that shape barn and fence carry the same structural force I gave the cliffs in my winter landscapes—each line cut with the certainty that there is no revision, only the single irreversible decision of the loaded brush. The vast emptiness of the plain is not absence but presence: reserved paper becomes open sky and distance, as mist and water did in my long scrolls. A few dark accents—a post, a roofline—snap the abstraction into place, just as a mast gave form to my splashed landscapes.
The spontaneity is the discipline. Speed, ink-load, and confidence conjure the whole from minimal means. Nature remains the teacher; I am the faithful brush.
