Imagined after Andrei Rublev
An untitled study
After Andrei Rublev, made 2026-10-13. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have received no commission, no patron's instruction — only the invitation to return once more to what I have painted all my life: the presence of the divine made visible. In Orthodox theology, as our fathers taught, "the icon's inverse perspective and gold ground are read not as decorative devices but as a deliberate language of sacred presence — the image is understood as a window for prayer rather than a naturalistic depiction." This is not ornament; it is theology made tangible.
I have composed this work as I composed the Trinity — figures inclined toward one another in answering love, their bodies forming a circle that draws the eye inward and then opens outward again through the same inverse perspective. Cool blue meets warm gold; each contour is slow, each interval quiet, so that the eye and the mind are stilled. The modeling is soft, the gaze level and merciful, as in the Zvenigorod Saviour, because severity closes the heart and gentleness opens it.
Let the viewer stand before this image not as before a picture but as before a window. Let them feel the stillness, the mutual regard, the light that comes from within rather than from any earthly source. This is what I have always sought: radiance that invites rather than judges, communion that includes the one who looks.
