The statement

I have labored once more to set before the faithful a window—not a picture that captures the eye, but an opening through which prayer may pass. In our tradition "the icon's inverse perspective and gold ground are read not as decorative devices but as a deliberate language of sacred presence—the image is understood as a window for prayer rather than a naturalistic depiction." This is not my invention but the inheritance I received when I painted beside Theophanes the Greek in the Kremlin, and which the holy fathers have upheld as the path all iconographers must follow.

In this new work I have sought again that profound stillness, the untroubled calm that invites the soul to rest. The composition draws the viewer inward through slow contours and luminous color—cool blues answering warm gold—so that one does not observe from without but enters into communion. The figures incline toward one another in mutual regard, each gesture open and answering, for the deepest truth is not solitary but shared. I efface my own hand, submitting to the canon as spiritual discipline, that through this humble obedience the light may shine not from any painted surface but from within, radiance made visible to guide the heart toward unity and peace.
