The statement

# Artist's Statement

I have set out once more to record what I know will not last — the working ranch, the man on horseback against open country, the world I first saw slipping away even when I was young enough to ride through it myself. I resolved long ago to capture that life before it disappeared for good, and this piece holds to that promise.

The composition throws horse and rider forward in a single diagonal thrust, all the energy concentrated in their silhouette against a low horizon. I have painted what I observed firsthand: correct tack, authentic posture, the way a man sits his mount when distance and weather press hard. The palette is direct and unsentimental — dusty browns, worn leather, pale sky — because the truth of this life lies in its physical demand, not in romance.

The viewer should feel the grip of the reins, the animal's power beneath, the watchful stillness before the next hard mile. This is endurance made visible. I paint it now because tomorrow it will be fence line and memory.
