The statement

# Artist's Statement

I have spent years in the West watching men and horses meet the land on its own hard terms, and I resolved long ago to record that world before it vanishes for good. This new work returns to that mission. The photograph from the ranch showed me a moment I recognized instantly—a rider and mount caught in full effort, the kind of raw physical strain that defines life out here where comfort is scarce and endurance is everything.

I built the composition to throw that energy forward, concentrating the drama in the twisting silhouette of horse and rider against an open sky. The brushwork is broad and direct, the palette stripped to the essential browns and duns of hide, dust, and hard ground. I have always prided myself on documentary accuracy—correct tack, true horsemanship drawn from firsthand observation—but here I wanted something beyond the reporter's plausibility I once chased. The handling favors atmosphere over anecdote, mood over mechanical detail.

What I want the viewer to feel is the vitality and fortitude of figures who refuse to give way, the muscular grip of bodies that endure because they must.
