The statement
# Artist's Statement
I have spent years watching the West slip away, and I resolved long ago to set down what I see before it vanishes entirely. This new work returns to that purpose — a rider and horse caught in the midst of ranch work, recorded with the same fidelity to tack, posture, and weather that I demanded of myself as a field illustrator. Every detail of gear and horsemanship must be correct; I have no patience for invention when the truth stands plainly before me.
What drives the picture, though, is not documentation alone but the raw physical force of the moment — the horse's muscularity, the rider's grip, the tension of bodies engaged in real labor under open sky. I want the viewer to feel that vitality, that strain and resilience. The palette is direct, the brushwork broad where it serves the action. The composition throws the figures forward, concentrating the drama in their silhouette against the land. This is not theater. It is the hard, unglamorous endurance that carries ranch life, and I mean to preserve it with all the tenacity the subject demands.
