After Frederic Remington, made 2026-07-12. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have spent my career recording what I sensed even as a young man in the West was vanishing — the wild riders, the open land, the soldiers and Native peoples who would soon disappear for good. Every detail in this new work — the tack, the horse, the rider's gear — is drawn from the same firsthand observation that built my reputation as a field illustrator, because accuracy is the foundation of honest testimony.
But this is not illustration. In my last years I have moved toward painting that favors mood over anecdote, and here the broad, atmospheric handling and muted palette do more than document a moment on the range — they press the viewer into the physical fact of endurance. The figure and mount are caught in that watchful stillness I first explored in *The Scout: Friends or Foes?*, the whole scene charged with the resilience and fortitude required to meet a hard land on its own terms.
What I want you to feel is the grip — the tenacity of horse and rider who refuse to let go, the raw vitality that animates every sinew, and the quiet dignity of those who bear hardship without flinching.
