The statement

I have spent my life recording the West I saw vanishing before my eyes — the wild riders, the open land, the soldiers and Native peoples who would soon be swept away by the march of settlement and wire. Even as a young man out there, I sensed it was all about to disappear for good, and I resolved to get it down true before the last of it was gone.

This new work springs from that same urge. I've taken a photograph from ranch life and pressed it through my hand to capture what the camera cannot — the vitality and raw physical energy of horse and rider caught in motion, the tenacity required to stay mounted and moving across hard country. I've learned to favor broad, direct brushwork and a palette that conveys atmosphere and mood over anecdotal detail. The composition throws the action forward, all drama concentrated in the twisting silhouette against the land and sky, so the viewer feels the grip, the strain, the vigor of the moment.

This is authenticity earned through firsthand observation — correct tack, true horsemanship, the fortitude of figures who endure what the range demands.
