The statement
# Artist's Statement
I have spent years in the West watching this life, knowing even as I drew it that it was slipping away, and I resolved to set it down before it vanished for good. This new canvas takes a working ranch scene—figures caught in the cold morning tasks that define the life—and charges it with the raw physical energy I have always sought. The movement is everything: a horse turning, a rider bracing against the animal's weight, the strain of bodies meeting the day's labor with unflinching resolve.
I have built my reputation on documentary accuracy—correct tack, authentic dress, the honest details of a field reporter who has been there—but now I push beyond mere illustration toward something more painterly. The palette is direct and unsentimental: browns, duns, the muted tones of working leather and winter light. Broad brushwork conveys atmosphere over anecdote, mood over mechanical description. What I want the viewer to feel is not nostalgia but presence—the bite of morning air, the muscular vitality of horse and rider, the tenacity required to endure this hard, disappearing world.
