This interior scene, make it expansive feeling, after Frederic Remington

The statement

I have spent my career recording the riders, soldiers, and open land of the West before they vanish forever. As a young man out there, I sensed that world slipping away and resolved to capture it while I still could. Every detail — the horses, the tack, the weapons, the dress of cavalrymen and Native peoples — I drew from firsthand observation, insisting on the accuracy of a field reporter.

But this interior has posed a different challenge. To make a confined space feel expansive, I have drawn on the atmospheric approach of my recent nocturnes, where broad handling and mood matter more than anecdote. I have kept the palette open and high-keyed, pushing the walls back through light and air rather than through the old illustrator's precision. The vitality I always sought in a plunging horse or a dash for timber — that raw physical energy — here becomes the breathing life of the room itself, the sense that even indoors the wide country presses in. The space should feel inhabited by the same toughness and endurance that carry my figures across the range: resilient, genuine, and alive.
