Imagined after Raphael
An untitled study
After Raphael, made 2026-08-15. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have completed this new work guided by the same principle I once confided to my dear friend Baldassare Castiglione: that because beautiful women are scarce, in order to paint a beauty I rely on "a certain idea" of beauty that comes into my mind—an ideal formed in the imagination rather than copied from any single model. The composition resolves itself into a stable harmony, each element finding its natural place within the whole as though drawn there by an invisible order. I have sought that effortless grace which transforms mere arrangement into something that appears inevitable, where no line is superfluous and every gesture contributes to a serene unity.
My palette and modeling serve this vision of ideal beauty—not the accidents of particular flesh, but form elevated and perfected by the mind's eye. The viewer should feel a quiet elevation of spirit, as though witnessing not the imperfect world we inhabit but a glimpse of that perfection toward which all earthly beauty strains. I have labored to make this vision legible and clear, so that the eye may rest in contemplation rather than struggle in confusion, and the soul may recognize in paint what it already knows in longing.
