Imagined after Praxiteles
A lady in rage!
After Praxiteles, made 2026-08-10. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have built my reputation rendering the gods in moments of quietude—Aphrodite surprised at her bath, Hermes daydreaming as he dandles the infant Dionysus, Apollo so languid he can scarcely muster the effort to kill a lizard. Pliny records that my Aphrodite of Knidos was "reckoned the finest statue in the whole world," and Pausanias documents my Hermes standing in the Heraion at Olympia. In every case, I worked to dissolve divine potency into human ease, polishing the marble surface to a skin-soft finish so that light would play differently on flesh than on the rougher drapery or hair.
But here—a lady in rage!—I confess the commission unsettles me. Rage is the antithesis of the dreamy, unstrained calm that defines my work. The body cannot describe that long, easy S-curve when fury tightens every sinew. The downturned gaze of private reverie must give way to something fierce and unmediated. I will carve her, yes, but the viewer should know: this is a violence I have never sought to capture, a tension utterly foreign to the flowing contours and tender grace that are my signature.
