Imagined after Praxiteles
An untitled study
After Praxiteles, made 2026-08-25. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have just completed a work in marble—my happiest medium, as those who know my practice understand—depicting a figure caught in that fleeting instant between intention and repose. The body describes a long, easy curve, weight settled onto one leg, the whole form leaning into its support so that divine potency dissolves into unstrained ease. I have polished the surface of the flesh to a soft, dewy sheen, leaving hair and drapery deliberately rough, so that light plays differently across skin and cloth, as it does in life.
What I seek, always, is to make the gods human without diminishing them: to show serenity not as stiff grandeur but as the dreamy calm of a settled mind, grace not as heroic exertion but as the effortless beauty of a body at rest. The viewer should feel tenderness—that gentle vulnerability that creates space for intimate connection—and recognize in this figure the same languid reverie one sees in a youth pausing by a tree, gaze drifting sideways, lost in thought. This is beauty that delights the senses and elevates the spirit, achieved through the absence of the unnecessary.
