The statement
I have set measured bodies in measured space, as painting demands. This new work rests on the discipline I have labored to codify in my treatise *De Prospectiva Pingendi*: the art divides into drawing — the measured outline of bodies — proportion, and the coloring of the diminished, foreshortened forms. The eye constructs the world by geometry, and the painter's task is to render that construction visible and true.
Every form here stands as a clear volume in calculable relation to its neighbors, bathed in even light so that no confusion obscures the architecture of space. I have built the composition on stable verticals and horizontals, seeking the grave calm that stills miracle into eternal fact. For geometry and painting are one study: what I have explored in my abacus treatise and my work on the five regular solids finds its completion on the panel, where the mind's order becomes visible to the senses.
The viewer should feel not agitation but contemplation — the presence of an intellect that has weighed and placed each element according to reason, so that the picture offers not drama but the tranquil certainty of mathematical truth made manifest in color and form.
