A missile silo in a forest, after Phidias

The statement

I have carved a missile silo in a forest as one would carve the birth of Athena — not as an isolated curiosity but as part of a civic program. Plutarch names me overseer of Pericles' works and artist of the great statues, and I hold to that office here: the silo stands in its clearing as the goddess once stood in her gable, a single moment made architectural, made public.

The trees I have kept in low relief, stacked in planes so thin the marble breathes — as the cavalcade's horses and riders interlock without confusion on the frieze. The silo itself rises in the center, a vertical given by the frame, its concrete rendered in smooth marble that catches light as the Dionysos torso once did under the Attic sun. There is no anecdote, no strain. The installation reads at a distance; it is clarity and unity first, fragment second.

This is not Hellenistic pathos. It is High Classical ease applied to the arsenal: the forest accepts the silo, the silo accepts the triangle of the composition. I carve dignity into what the age has made, so the viewer may see majesty where before there was only function and fear.
