Imagined after Phidias
A man sitting
After Phidias, made 2026-08-19. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have placed a man seated at rest, as I arranged the gods in the east gable of the Parthenon. The figure takes the architectural frame as a given—weight settled into the triangle, no strain in the torso, the body reading as High Classical ease even where the marble must compress to fit the corner. The drapery beneath him is carved in deep, wet folds that will catch the temple light as they caught the Athenian sun, each fold a plane for shadow and radiance.
This seated man belongs to the program I have overseen for Pericles: bodies that carry dignity without anecdote, limbs that interlock in clarity so the city may read them at a distance. He is not an isolated statue but one figure in a coordinated whole—gods in the gables, the cavalcade on the frieze below, all joined as civic magnificence in marble. The viewer should feel what the pediments and the frieze together proclaim: majesty that inspires reverence, unity that transcends the individual part, and the authority of a city that raises such works to its gods.
