Imagined after The Memphite Old Kingdom Sculptors
A man holding a melon
After The Memphite Old Kingdom Sculptors, made 2026-08-19. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
We carved this figure so that the man might remain present after death, a body for his ka. The melon he holds is painted in local color—green or amber, as it appears in daylight—so that the offering is recognizable and permanent. We shaped the limestone until the surface was smooth enough to take paint like skin, then set rock crystal into the eyes so that he looks back at anyone who enters the tomb.
The pose is frontal and symmetrical. The man sits or stands in the manner of the seated scribe or the pair statue of Rahotep and Nofret—closed contours, no atmospheric depth, only the clarity of what is here. The melon rests in his hands as a sign of provision, carved with the same command of stone we brought to the painted flesh and the dark mass of the wig. Expression belongs to the gaze, not to the mouth.
This is a ka-figure. It will last in the tomb as long as the stone endures, and the inlaid eyes will catch whatever light enters. The viewer should feel that the man is still present, still looking, still holding what sustains him.
