The statement
# Artist's Statement
I confess I place no value on a literal transcript from nature—topography in art is worthless. My aim has always been toward idealization, choosing and composing so as to convey the true character and grandeur of a place rather than a mechanical record of it. In this new work, I have taken the raw material of a ranch photograph and reimagined it as Turner would have done: not copying what the camera saw, but distilling the scene's essential sublimity.
The horizontal sweep of open range, the distant peaks catching light, the weathered structures of human habitation against wild immensity—these elements I have bathed in a luminous, atmospheric glow, building the color in thin glazes to a radiant key. Warm ochres and rusts in the foreground earth play against cool blue haze receding toward the mountains, unified by golden light that makes the whole scene pulse with magnificence.
What I want the viewer to feel is not merely "here is a ranch," but rather the majesty of the western landscape itself—that overwhelming grandeur which Congress recognized when they preserved Yellowstone, that sublime beauty which transcends mere documentation and lifts the spirit toward reverence.
