# Artist's Statement
I have spent my life chasing light — not the fixed appearance of things, but the fleeting, instantaneous impression of atmosphere as it dissolves and remakes the world moment by moment. Eugène Boudin opened my eyes to this truth when I was young in Le Havre, teaching me "to observe and to paint directly from nature in the open air," and I have pursued that lesson across rivers, cathedrals, and gardens ever since.
In this new work of a happy couple surrounded by love, I sought to capture not their faces or forms, but the radiant envelope of light that holds them — the warm glow that love itself seems to cast. I worked quickly, in broken strokes of rose, gold, and violet, allowing color temperature rather than line to build the figures and their embrace. The surface pulses with reflected daylight; shadows are not dark but luminous, cool greens and blues that make the sunlit passages flare brighter still.
The viewer should feel the ephemerality of the moment — joy caught in its own vanishing, tender and alive as the light that passes even as we look.
