Imagined after The Maya Court Sculptors
An untitled study
After The Maya Court Sculptors, made 2026-09-20. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
We carve these lintels so that the doorway itself becomes witness. When Shield Jaguar and Lady Xoc step through, they step through their own ritual frozen in stone—bloodletting, the rope, the torch, all named and dated in glyphs that share the same plane as their bodies. We do not make portable pictures. We make the threshold of a ceremonial city, so that anyone who enters passes beneath the king's offering and the queen's pain.
The limestone is shallow, hardly deeper than a hand's width, but we pack it full: headdress stacks as tall as torsos, nested scrolls in every interval, costume overlapping costume until only the glyph column offers a vertical pause. We count on the doorway's raking light to lift figure from ground, to throw the rope and textile into relief. Image and inscription together lock the rite to a single date, a single royal pair—one record, permanent, that the dynasty and the gods may read as long as the stone endures.
We carve complexity so the threshold holds authority. We carve integrity so text and body speak as one.
