Imagined after Masaccio
An untitled study
After Masaccio, made 2026-10-08. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted what I see with my own eyes: bodies that occupy space as truly as stone, set in light that falls from one source and casts shadows where it must. In this new work, I have built the composition as Ser Filippo Brunelleschi builds his chapels — every figure placed according to the measure of linear perspective, so that the eye travels through rational space toward a single vanishing point. The figures stand with the weight of columns; their drapery falls as cloth falls in the world; their flesh is modeled by a consistent light that reveals the roundness of limbs and the turn of a head. I have learned from the ancients that **dignity** lives in sculptural **solidity**, and from nature that **clarity** of space gives **presence** to what we paint.
Let the viewer feel not the surface of the wall, but the **grandeur** of bodies inhabiting measurable depth — a window opened onto the world as it truly is, where men and women possess the gravity and nobility of their station. This is the modern manner: painting that imitates nature with such truth that the figures seem to stand before you, casting real shadows, breathing real air.
