The statement
# Artist's Statement
I have pushed all incident to one edge of the silk, leaving the remainder to breathe as undisturbed space. This is the method that has earned me the name "One-Corner Ma"—a diagonal asymmetry balanced by voids of blank silk, where emptiness itself becomes the subject. In this new work, as in my *Walking on a Path in Spring*, I gather the elements at a single corner and allow the atmospheric void to complete the composition. The viewer's eye must travel across that emptiness to find the motif, and in that journey the picture's mood takes shape.
My aim is to do the most with the least. A handful of economical strokes must carry the entire weight of meaning. When I painted my *Water Album*, I sought to describe a single element in many moods through pure variation of brushwork alone—still ripples rendered in fine, rhythmic curves; surging waves in heavier, curling strokes. Here too, every line must justify its presence.
What I wish the viewer to feel is the profound inner calm that arises when the unnecessary has been stripped away: a meditative serenity, a lyric elegance, the quiet beauty of restraint.
