The statement

I have just completed a new work, and as always it emerges from the patterns my shop and I have refined over decades in service to court and Reformation alike. My manner remains constant: the wiry, enamel contour that holds flesh as porcelain against a dark ground, the Northern line that refuses the soft glow of the Venetians. Whether the subject is Venus or Luther, Judith or this new piece, my approach serves a clear purpose—to create images that read at once, that function as **types** rather than unique private likenesses.

"The Luther portraits are read as public Reformation images: a repeatable, recognizable face for a new church, issued from a friendly court workshop rather than as unique private likenesses." This principle governs all I make. My nudes, too, are types: "myth as court object, repeated with small variations across the shop"—pale enamel flesh and decorative attention to chain, feather, blade. The viewer should recognize the subject immediately, feel the courtly grace with its slight edge, and trust that what they see comes from a workshop of complete command. Clarity, fidelity, charm: these are my tools.
