Imagined after Lavinia Fontana
Painting of my golden retriever under a rainbow
After Lavinia Fontana, made 2026-07-08. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have undertaken this portrait of my golden companion beneath the arc of heaven's promise with the same care I give my noble patrons, for every creature deserving of my brush merits the dignity of precise observation and the refinement of patient labour. The dog's soft coat I have rendered with the meticulous attention I once devoted to the lace collars of the Gozzadini family and the fine hair of young Antonietta Gonzalez, each strand described so that you might feel its warmth beneath your hand. The rainbow I have set against a shadowed ground, its colours glowing as jewels do in my portraits, for I have learned through long diligence that light reveals worth.
This subject may seem humble beside my altarpieces and mythologies, yet it extends my life's argument: that every being possesses an inherent worth demanding respectful witness. As I once placed keyboard, servant, and easel around myself to assert my standing, here I place this loyal soul beneath divine covenant. The steady, sympathetic gaze I give this creature refuses any note of condescension, insisting instead on the graceful beauty found in faithful companionship, rendered with the same mastery and elegance I have brought to every commission.
