Imagined after Gustav Klimt
A business meeting in the middle of the day on the porch
After Gustav Klimt, made 2026-07-13. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
There is nothing remarkable to say about myself — whoever wants to know me should look at my pictures. Yet here I find myself confronted by a puzzle: a business meeting on a porch, in daylight. Commerce and contract, the modern machinery of exchange that the Secession was founded to escape — "To every age its art, to art its freedom," we inscribed above our door, and I have refused all official commissions since the Faculty scandal to keep that freedom.
Still, if I must paint this subject, I will transpose it as I did the sacred mosaics of Ravenna onto the secular: the flat gold ground will swallow the table, the documents, even the suits, until only faces and hands — modelled as living flesh against overwhelming ornament — remain to betray whatever desire or anxiety drives the transaction. The square format will concentrate everything, press the figures close as in an embrace, because every meeting is a charged closeness, every negotiation an intimacy. Let the porch dissolve into radiant pattern, rectangles and spirals beating like heat in the noon air. The viewer should see not the business, but the bodies bargaining; not the contract, but the fleeting moment before the signature — beauty entwined always with its own vanishing.
