Imagined after Wassily Kandinsky
An untitled study
After Wassily Kandinsky, made 2026-07-13. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have pursued abstraction not as a flight from meaning but as the only honest path toward it. When I stumbled upon one of my own canvases standing on its side at dusk and saw an indescribably beautiful picture of pure form and color — only later recognizing it as my own — I understood that recognizable objects were harming my work. The accident freed me: if a painting could move me so powerfully when I no longer knew what it depicted, then depiction itself was unnecessary, perhaps an obstacle.
"Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul." This new work arises from that conviction. Like the atonal music of Schoenberg that prompted my *Impression III*, it speaks a spiritual language without recourse to the outer world. Every shape, every color relationship, answers only to inner necessity — the demand of my soul that the painting exist exactly as it does. The viewer should not ask what it represents but should let the composition play upon the soul as music does, directly and without mediation.
