Imagined after Giotto di Bondone
A nurse taking care of a series of patients during a time of plaugue
After Giotto di Bondone, made 2026-07-04. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I endeavor, through this latest work, to capture the profound compassion and human drama inherent in the care of the afflicted during these trying times of plague. Just as in my earlier frescoes, such as *The Lamentation*, where the composition's weight draws the viewer into the sorrow of Christ's mourners, I aim here to forge a similar bridge of empathy between the spectator and my subjects.
The nurse, central in the composition, is portrayed with a solidity and presence akin to the Virgin in the *Ognissanti Madonna*. Her figure is designed to convey stability and dignity, as she tends to each patient with tender devotion. I utilize the bulk and three-dimensionality of the figures to ensure they occupy a believable space, grounding the viewer in the reality of the scene.
Through this work, I wish to evoke a deep awareness of suffering transformed into caring action. The goal is not only to depict the physical act of healing but to celebrate the inherent dignity each soul carries, even amid suffering. It is my hope that the viewer is moved to compassion, recognizing our shared humanity in every gesture of care and connection.
