Imagined after Giotto di Bondone
An untitled study
After Giotto di Bondone, made 2026-10-06. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have just completed a panel that I hope restores to sacred narrative the weight and warmth of lived human experience. For too long, our art has dwelt in golden abstraction, figures floating without substance or true feeling. My aim, as it has been throughout my labors in Padua and Florence, is to return painting to the direct imitation of nature and the legible drama of the human heart.
In this new work, I have employed the lessons learned in the Lamentation and the Arrest—using diagonal lines to guide the eye toward the moment of greatest emotional truth, and placing solid, sculptural figures in a space the viewer can enter and inhabit. Light models faces and drapery to give them genuine bulk, not mere pattern. The composition is built to move you: to make you feel the dignity and tenderness of the scene as if you stood within it.
My hope is that the viewer will be stirred to compassion, recognizing in these painted forms the same suffering, love, and presence that mark our mortal days. Sacred truth must be felt in the body, not merely contemplated in the mind.
