Imagined after Théodore Géricault
An untitled study
After Théodore Géricault, made 2026-10-25. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted what strain does to bodies and what bodies do under strain. The Raft made you look at wreck and scandal as a composition of the living and the dead — a documented disaster raised so the Salon could not turn away. The Chasseur was a single twisting mass of horse and rider, sabre and white flash setting the direction. The Derby stretched horses into a frieze of speed, designed motion before any camera could split it frame by frame.
This new work holds to the same method: modern subject, not costume alone; paint that constructs rather than enamels; bodies or forms pushed to their limit so the picture becomes an argument, not only an atmosphere. I study from life and from what life leaves behind. The composition must carry both the demand for fellow-feeling and the physical fact of strain. Whether it is flesh on a raft or a horse at full gallop, the image insists you feel the force that animates it — the power and the breaking point together. That is what painting can do that politeness cannot.
