The statement
I have painted a krater showing the moment a host extends *xenia*—the guest-friendship that binds stranger to hearth. The scene is a threshold: one figure gestures inward, the other hesitates at the boundary, and between them the air holds the question. I bent the composition to the vessel as I always do. The host's arm and the guest's lean mirror the krater's flaring rim, and the doorway stands at the center so every incised line—the folds of their cloaks, the pattern on the lintel—converges there, where decision trembles.
I worked the incision as finely as I could command the needle. The meanders on the guest's himation echo those I cut into the cloaks of Achilles and Ajax at their board game, ornament and anatomy drawn with the same care. The space around them I left open, silent, so the gesture alone carries the weight. No tumult, no crowd—just two figures and the gravity of the offered hand. "ἐποίησεν" and "ἔγραψεν" I inscribed beneath the foot, claiming both the shaping and the painting, because this threshold and its stillness are mine.
