The statement

I have bent this vessel to its subject as I have always done. The two figures—one standing, one seated—are disposed so their postures echo the shoulder and belly of the pot, and the single object between them draws every incised line to the center of their attention. I made this vessel and I painted it: ἐποίησεν, ἔγραψεν. The claim is mine.

The ornament I worked with the needle as finely as I know: meanders and rosettes that do not compete with the figures but clarify them, as stars clarify a night sky. The composition holds a single legible moment. No crowd, no incident, only the two and the charged stillness between them. I want the viewer to feel what stillness can hold—the gravity of attention, the dignity of posture, the weight of what passes in silence between human beings.

I have flooded some vessels with coral slip so the figures ride a warm sea; I have isolated others in empty air so a single tree and a planted sword do all the work. Here the empty ground lets the encounter resonate. The drama is in the bent back, the inclined head, the space that separates and joins them.
