Imagined after Exekias
A chsrt
After Exekias, made 2026-08-16. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have made an amphora showing two heroes bent over a board, their attention fixed on the game between them. I write this because the moment itself demands it: not the clash of spears but the stillness before or after, when even warriors must reckon with chance and thought.
The composition follows the vessel. Their hunched backs echo the pot's shoulders, and their raised spears converge toward the board at the center, so that every line of the design draws the eye to the point of their concentration. I have incised their cloaks with meanders, rosettes, and stars, ornament as fine as I can make it, because dignity requires completeness—the same needle that renders a fold of muscle must render the pattern of fabric.
I sign this work ἐποίησεν and ἔγραψεν because I claim both the making and the painting. The black-figure technique permits this precision if the hand is steady. The viewer should feel the weight of the silence, the gravity that surrounds even a simple game when heroes play it. Clarity, serenity, the inherent worth of the figures—these I pursue in every vessel I make.
