Imagined after Euphronios
An untitled study
After Euphronios, made 2026-10-08. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have painted this krater because the moment when a hero is carried from the field — neither standing nor entirely lost — asks for the red-figure line at its fullest stretch. On the Sarpedon vessel I signed as painter (égrapsen) because the drawing itself, the relief line that maps slack ribs and the straining backs of Sleep and Death, was the work I claimed. Here again I test what the lifted body can say: weight made visible, anatomy that responds to force, the turn from violence to tenderness within a single composition.
The Sarpedon scene taught me that "heroic death is a statement about the beautiful death," as the mixing-bowl holds theology for the symposium. The Antaios krater let me lock two torsos in a knot, feet leaving earth, muscle compacting against collapsing ribs. This new work continues that search — one myth, named and clear, readable on the curve of the pot so the viewer moves from muster to funeral, or from struggle to its aftermath, and feels the grave public register we owe such moments. The black ground isolates the group like relief against night. The living line and the dead are equally observed.
