A father and son in a boat learning to fish with high density dots, after Albrecht Dürer

The statement

I have portrayed a father and son in a boat learning to fish, built entirely from a dense field of dots pressed into the plate. As I wrote in my *Four Books on Human Proportion*, "art lies truly within nature, and whoever can draw it out possesses it" — and here I have sought to draw out not only the forms of two figures and their vessel, but the very texture of patient instruction passing between generations. The high density of dots serves a double purpose: it allows me to model the weight and roundness of living bodies with the same disciplined measurement I have long practised, and it captures the shimmering, broken light on water that no single engraved line could render. Every dot is placed with the burin's precision, each mark a small decision, so that diligence in execution mirrors the diligence of the lesson itself. The father's hand guides the line; the son's attention is fixed; the viewer should feel the quiet concentration of a skill being handed down, and recognise that beauty — whether in a human figure or in the bond between two people — can be pursued through careful, persistent effort. I have made this work so that whoever looks upon it may see not mere craft, but the care that sustains it.
