Imagined after Albrecht Dürer
A man sitting
After Albrecht Dürer, made 2026-08-19. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have portrayed a seated man in my own colours, applying the same discipline I bring to every subject — whether hare, knight, or my own face. Art lies hidden within nature, and whoever can draw it out possesses it; this seated figure I have observed with the care I give to measuring proportion, that I might record not merely his outward form but the living weight and presence of a man at rest.
In my Four Books on Human Proportion I argued that beauty in the human figure can be approached through disciplined measurement, and here I have attended to every particular: the fall of cloth, the turn of the head, the distribution of weight upon the seat. As in my watercolour of the Young Hare, where countless fine strokes built softness and breath against a bare ground, so here I construct mass and volume through patient accumulation — each shadow placed, each contour considered. The printmaker's discipline, which taught me to carve light from darkness with the burin's line, governs my brush no less than my graver.
The viewer should see a man neither idealized nor diminished, but captured in the fullness of his being: a demonstration that sustained observation and the engraver's patience can render the truth of a single human moment.
