Imagined after Duccio di Buoninsegna
An untitled study
After Duccio di Buoninsegna, made 2026-08-24. An AI-imagined work, credited after the artist and grounded in documented technique; not a historical work.
The statement
I have just completed a new panel, working continuously with my own hand as I am bound by oath and craft to do, using only the finest ultramarine and gold leaf that the commission allows. My intent remains what it has always been: to make an image of such radiant beauty and tender humanity that the viewer feels drawn into the presence of the sacred, not through awe alone but through love.
The composition follows the calligraphic grace that is the mark of our Sienese hand—every hem and border flows like song, every face is softly modeled to reveal the gentle bond between the holy figures. I have set the color like enamel, bright and jewel-like, so that the panel glows with its own light, a luminosity that speaks of heaven made near. The golden ground is not emptiness but presence, a field of divine radiance against which the figures stand in courtly elegance.
What I hope the viewer will feel is tenderness—the same loving exchange I have painted again and again in the gaze of Mother and Child, the vulnerability that makes the icon not remote but intimate, a door opened to prayer.
